• The hospital in Nakuru (Kenya’s 3rd largest city) was renamed Bishop Eddie Long Bondeni Maternity and
Children’s Hospital. Tragically, a disproportionately high percentage of mothers and children die in childbirth.
Bishop Long’s vision is to build a state-of-the-art 400 bed hospital to serve as a prototype for other cities
throughout the country. With Bishop Long’s assistance and New Birth catching the vision, much of the
existing hospital has been renovated with safer births, heightened sanitation with the Department of Health

  Africa Resource Group
   Project Highlights
   Department: Africa Resource Foundation
Project or Organization: African/American Consortium of Theological Studies (AACTS)
   Focus Area: Leadership

Objective: Develop partnerships between AACTS and U.S. institutions to develop Kenyan leaders

Role: Performed assessment analysis to determine best approach and conducted partner studies to create best partnerships
   in Kenya.

Partnership Development
• AACTS is a collaborative effort in Kenya of several denominations and two Bible Colleges (Africa Inland Church [AIC],
Presbyterian Church of East Africa [PCEA], Kaimosi Bible College [KBC], Nairobi Pentecostal Bible College [NPBC],
and Evangelical Fellowship of Africa [PEFA]. These organizations represent more than 80% of Christians in Kenya.

• $20,000 grants to support African American Consortium of Theological Studies (AACTS). The money will be used for
renovation of a clinic in Nakuru (Kenya) and for buying basic materials for the clinic. The clinic serves a very poor
community, serviced by volunteer medical personnel. The money will also be used for training two hundred (200)
Government and Christian leaders in Nairobi (Kenya) and for shipping and buying the training materials. These leaders
are officials from the Ministry of local government, which oversees the urban issues, and pastors with growing churches
in the cities of Kenya. The workshop will be conducted by leading professors in urban ministry from Beulah Heights Bible
College, from July 31- August 4 in Nairobi Kenya. These men and women have volunteered their time and raised their air
tickets.

• Partnership with Emory Medical center delivered 40 computer donations($40,000)

Political-Environmental Analysis
• AACTS has identified several projects, which will help poor communities directly. One of the projects is training
leaders in the urban ministry. These are leaders who have positioned themselves in the cities. Either they are government officials or church leaders. It is estimated that 80% of the population of Kenya now reside in the cities, but yet the whole
infrastructure (health services, schools system, housing, transport etc) is in total collapse. The leaders will have an
opportunity to work with government officials, raising an opportunity for Christian influence in policy making. This is a
cooperative effort on both side of the Atlantic. AACTS has partnered with Beulah Heights Bible College, North Avenue
Presbyterian Church, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Timothy Baptist Church and other institutions who share this
vision.
